Microsoft says the 3D gaming applied science being touted by Sony and Nintendo is "exciting" but quiet mode too expensive for mainstream success.

If there's a central theme at this year's E3 away from apparent movement controls, it's 3D. Both Sony and Nintendo have been pushing the third proportion bad hard, Sony done 3D games on the PlayStation 3 and 3D televisions and Nintendo connected its handheld 3DS. Microsoft, on the other pass on, doesn't seem to personify too anxious to jump on that particular bandwagon.

3D is "an interesting engineering of the future," in the worlds of Microsoft U.K. honcho Neil Thompson, but patently the distant hereafter, not the immediate unmatchable. "If you look at the costs of entry into the parlour and when that's going to become mass-market, we reckon the offering with Kinect and the natural drug user-interface we're bringing, that's a more persuasive proposal for consumers over the coming years than maybe looking at 3D at this point," he said.

IT's a valid point. The PlayStation 3 relies connected a 3D television and eyeglasses, which offers a same compelling experience and a hell of a price tag, too; a 40-inch Samsung 3D Liquid crystal display runs about two grand at the best Buy and eyeglasses are $180 a toss off. Have a couple of friends complete on a Saturday night and suddenly you're look a $3000 showing setup. That's non the considerate of coin most hoi polloi find lying subordinate their couch cushions.
